COVID-19 and Safety Procedures Update

At Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, the health and safety of our patients, staff and providers is our first priority. On top of the rigorous sanitary procedures we have always maintained, we've added additional precautions during these uncertain times of COVID-19. July 24, 2020 UPDATE - Phase IV Gradually Resume: As you may know, Mayor Lightfoot announced some amendments to Chicago's Phase IV reopening. We want to ensure our patients that as a medical facility, we are exempt from the amended Phase IV: Gradually Resume changes. The "personal services" referenced in the announcement do not affect medical facilities like CCSD. All of our Practice policies remain in alignment with City of Chicago guidelines, and our sanitation measures remain vigilant, using medical grade products and processes (detailed below). [embed]https://youtu.be/kQbU619WmVA[/embed] View our eblast about our Practice COVID-19 policies and safety procedures If you are coming into our office for an appointment, here are some safeguards to consider: In accordance with Governor Pritzker’s Stay-At-Home Order, 515 N State Street management is enforcing a face mask policy for the building. Please ensure you are wearing a personal face covering before coming into your appointment. Fill out your paperwork ahead of time via the Portal, texting and/or DocuSign. Our staff will be requesting paperwork from you that should be completed and submitted in advance of your visit. We will email you prior to your appointment alerting you what steps need to be completed to prepare for your visit. The patient portal is the most effective and compliant way to share information with us and will minimize the amount of contact you have with our staff, and the amount of time you are in the office. If you are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, fever above 100°F, cough, shortness of breath, chills, shaking chills, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, we require you to reschedule your appointment or use telehealth. If you have traveled outside of the Midwest in the past 2 weeks, we ask that you use telehealth as your method of visit. Please come alone. Unless you are a parent or legal guardian of a minor, or caretaker for another individual who requires support, we ask that you bring no other guests or children to the visit to minimize unnecessary exposure. For your safety and peace of mind, CCSD is taking these additional safety procedures: To help maintain social distancing, daily in-office visits are less than a third of our usual volume thanks to Telehealth. CCSD also has 15,000 square feet of office space with 27 exam rooms. This allows our patients private space for their visit. We will check your temperature upon arrival and ask you a few questions related to the virus to ensure safety. All CCSD employees will also be required to have their temperatures checked and answer the COVID-19 questionnaire prior to their shift. All of our staff will be wearing personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, eyewear/shields). They will also be sanitizing all surfaces, objects and exams rooms after patients or staff have touched them. Hand sanitizer is located around the office for the use of all patients. Our spacious retail checkout allows patients to be 6ft apart (and then some!) from other patients at their departure. If your credit card is on file, it can be charged with your verbal approval. Updates for when you come into CCSD

As protests continue across Chicago and the nation, we express sympathy for anyone who faces discrimination based on skin color. We stand in solidarity with them in the call for true equality of care, justice, and opportunity! We have been playing close attention to Mayor Lightfoot's announcements and updates from city officials. As of June 2nd, we are open and excited to care for ALL of our patients! Here are some updates for when you come into CCSD for your appointment, so you can have the safest experience possible. If you are taking public transit, please check up-to-date CTA information prior to your visit, as the status can change frequently. If driving, both of our validated parking garages at 540 N. State and 10 E. Grand are open. If one entrance seems closed, try another access point, as the garage may be trying to keep access secure. As of June 8th, acess to downtown includes Lake Shore Drive, I-90/94 and I-290 which have all reopened. All bridges in the Loop have been lowered except for Wabash. Check here for the most up-to-date traffic impacts to the downtown area. Our building, 515 N State Street, will have increased security for patient safety. Please don't forget to bring a face covering or mask with you to your appointment. Please use the building's South side doors (the entrance by the Palomar Hotel and Sable Restaurant). You may need to present an ID to security, otherwise proceed to the elevators and go to floor 9 for our office. All data is encrypted, your sessions are anonymous, and none of your information is stored. Great for general dermatology return and new patients, as well as prescription refills. Telehealth visits are also insurance eligible! No need to download software or create an account. Just use a browser on a computer or device with a camera and microphone. Due to state regulations, all new and current patients must be a permanent resident of Illinois in order to book a telehealth appointment. However, if you're an established patient who is traveling or away for college (for example), you are still able to book a telehealth appointment as long as Illinois is the state where you permanently reside. Can't I just visit doxy.me to see my provider? No! You need to call our office at 312-245-9965 to book an appointment to get your telehealth appointment scheduled with one of our providers. They will also provide you instructions on how to use the doxy.me platform for your upcoming appointment. So my insurance will cover this visit, right? Most insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid now cover telemedicine. However, please call our office so we can ensure your specific insurance includes telehealth services, and what copay or balances you can expect to pay based on your plan. What if I have a high deductible plan or limited insurance coverage? You can still set up a live virtual doxy.me appointment and out-of-pocket costs are only $75 for returning patients or $100 for new patients. How will I get my prescription if I need one? Medication can be e-prescribed to your pharmacy. You can also purchase select medication from our Chicago Skin Science store for shipping directly to your door. CCSD COVID-19 response & telederm options

Firstly, we want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring all updates and guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other local health organizations regarding the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Currently we will remain open during our normal business hours (unless otherwise instructed by local public officials) while continuing to maintain our rigorous cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene practices. IMPORTANT: If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, please reschedule your appointment for a later date and self-quarantine yourself for the safety of you and others. We will be waiving any last-minute cancellation or no-show fees. We wanted to remind you of our OnlineMD appointment option available to all general dermatology patients. It provides you the same level of care with our trusted providers as coming into the office but from the comfort of your own home! New Physician Assistant – Caroline Sheppard, PA-C

We are excited to announce a new Certified Physician Assistant joining our CCSD family on Monday, January 6th! Caroline Sheppard is a board-certified physician assistant who graduated from Chatham University Physician Assistant program. She completed her undergraduate degree in International Studies: Global Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Caroline comes to CCSD with several years of experience as a dermatology physician assistant at the University of Chicago Medicine, where she cared for patients in general dermatology. She was also a medical assistant at CCSD prior to physician assistant school and is excited to be back on the team! Caroline is an active member in the Illinois Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (ISDPA) and Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). She is passionate about maintaining strong patient-provider relationships and has a special interest in treating acne and psoriasis.
