May is Melanoma Awareness Month

When it comes to good skin health, prevention and protection is key. Skin cancer describes an abnormal growth of cells, most often (but not always) found on areas of sun-exposed skin. Although those with fair skin who burn easily have a higher risk, skin cancer can all affect all race and ethnicities. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and often develops as a mole or new, dark spot. A top tip from Dr. Carolyn Jacob is “Look for the ugly duckling” and know the ABCDE warning signs to promote early diagnosis and treatment. Schedule regular mole screenings and monitor them for any changes. Be sure to apply sunscreen (even on cloudy days) to all exposed skin. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects the skin against both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of at least 30. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Don’t use tanning beds - just like the sun, UV light from tanning beds can cause wrinkling, age spots and can lead to skin cancer. Appointment Punctuality – A Kind Request

Your time is valuable to us. As our Practice gets busier we continue to do our very best to keep your appointment, and our clinics, running to time.  Please be mindful that if you are scheduled for a 3pm visit this reflects the time we hope to have you with your chosen provider.  It does not take into account the required check in process or updating of any necessary paperwork.  We recommend all patients arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time to allow us the best chance of keeping you, and our other patients to time.  Any patient requiring a surgical procedure please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled start  The best way to submit your information to the office is via our patient portal which allows you to submit your medical history, demographic and financial policy securely to the office in advance of your visit. I’ve been seeing Dr. Ibrahim Omer for a few months now for some derm issues (perioral dermatitis, eczema). He instantly identifies the problem and prescribes appropriately. He is also great with taking the time to explain what’s happening, and how to manage the medications and creams once I get home.
