State of the art technology and medication come together to erase years of sun damage, especially precancerous spots, from your skin in one to two treatments.

What is PDT for Sun Damage?

Levulan (Aminolevulinic acid 20%) is a naturally occurring photosensitizing compound which is approved by the FDA to treat pre-cancerous skin lesions called Actinic Keratoses. Levulan is applied to the skin and subsequently “activated” with the BLU-U blue light device.  This process of activating Levulan is termed Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT). This process results in a medical-grade peel for precancerous skin lesions and photodamaged skin. After treatment, the skin is left smoother and clearer with an excellent cosmetic response.

Is there any downtime after PDT?

You should avoid direct sunlight for 24-26 hours following the treatment due to skin photosensitivity. You may experience burning/stinging, itching, swelling, redness, skin peeling, crusting, as well as lightening of skin tone and spots. The peeling may last a few days and the pinkness for 2-4 weeks.

Dr. Ibrahim is AMAZING. He has such a wonderful ‘bed side manner’ and his experience is multifaceted. I go to him for both regular skin concerns and cosmetic reasons and he has been able to help with every issue I have! He is by far the best dermatologist I have been to and I recommend him 100%
