Hair Loss Treatments in Chicago
Scalp hair grows approximately half an inch every month, and on average most people shed about 100 individual hairs from their heads every day. Some people, due to genetics, medical conditions, or environmental issues, experience hair loss in excess. In fact, over 80 million American men and women suffer hair loss of some type.
Hair life cycles are regulated by chemicals in the body called androgens. These work to maintain consistent hair follicle size, as well. When there’s an influx of androgens, however, the hair life cycle is shortened, leading to thinner hair and slower regrowth.
Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology offers several hair loss solutions with treatment plans that are customized specifically based on your hair and goals.
Most Common Types of Hair Loss
Here at CCSD we commonly see a few types of hair loss or alopecia. Some are based primarily on genetics and others include additional factors.
Alopecia Areata
This type of patchy hair loss usually begins in children and young adults, but it can start at any age. All gender identities and skin tones can get alopecia areata. Most people lose hair on their scalp or beard area, but hair loss can occur anywhere on your body.
Androgenetic Alopecia
Affecting over 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. alone, androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of hair loss. Often referred to as male or female pattern hair loss, this condition is genetic but can be managed with treatment.
Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA)
This type of alopecia begins at the apex of the scalp and may gradually spread to the sides. While recognized as genetic, symptoms typically start with inflammation and can be treated.
Telogen Effluvium
This type of hair loss is often brought on by intense stress, illness, severe changes in diet, hormone changes, or low iron or protein levels. It occurs during the resting phase of the hair growth cycle, causing multiple hairs to shed all at once.
Traction Alopecia
Braids, ponytails, and hair extensions may look great, but over time the continuous pulling can damage hair follicles. Traction alopecia can be avoided by wearing looser styles or by limiting the duration of tighter hair styles.

AnteAGE MDX Hair Exosomes
Utilizing the power of specialized growth factors, this injectable in-office hair loss treatment stimulates hair follicles to stimulate new hair growth and increases the appearance of hair thickness. This new treatment contains the following powerful hair growth ingredients:
- Hybrid Stem Cell Exosomes
1:1 combination of Bone Marrow and Wharton’s Jelly (Umbilical Cord) Mesenchymal Stem Cell derived extracellular vesicles specifically targeted to activate the WNT signaling pathway. Through advanced cell culture techniques, these exosomes demonstrate specific, targeted application to help improve hair growth. - Caffeine
Caffeine has shown to combat thinning hair and promote thicker and fuller locks. It functions as a DHT inhibitor while also promoting angiogenesis improving blood flow to the scalp. - Azelaic Acid
Azelaic Acid functions to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone to DHT (Azelaic Acid reduces DHT formation). Combined with its anti-inflammatory effects Azelaic Acid provides a more favorable environment in the scalp to help promote healthy hair growth. - Shikimic Acid
Shikimic Acid is a potent anti-inflammatory molecule derived from the Chinese star anise tree. Combined with its anti-oxidant capabilities Shikimic Acid has been shown to significantly prolong the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
This treatment uses your own body’s blood plasma, which is naturally rich in proteins needed for healthy skin and hair. PRP treatments involve drawing blood and filtering out the PRP cells, which are then injected into the scalp. This causes follicles to enlarge and regrow thicker hair.

Antiandrogens
Hair loss treatments that include antiandrogens return the hair life cycle to normal, encouraging faster regrowth of thicker, longer hair.
Minoxidil
This antihypertensive vasodilator helps stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow around the follicles. It also promotes good hair follicle health and extends the growth phase. We have our own specially formulated hair regrowth serums that also include finasteride (for men) and spironolactone (for women).
Finasteride (For Men)
This antiandrogen primarily addresses hair regrowth at the top of the scalp but may improve hair growth near the temples, as well. In many cases, finasteride is also used to prevent additional hair loss.
Spironolactone (For Women)
This diuretic reduces the production of testosterone and other androgens, thereby increasing scalp hair regrowth and density. It can also help reduce excessive facial hair growth, which is stimulated by testosterone.
