What exactly is a breast lift? Is a breast lift safe to have done? Am I a good candidate for a breast lift procedure? These are all important questions to address before committing to a surgical procedure.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a type of plastic surgery that elevates and reshapes sagging breast tissue. Factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and aging can all affect the skin elasticity and firmness of the breast. This type of breast augmentation is designed to give the breast a more youthful appearance, and can be done in conjunction with breast implants.

Woman consults with surgeon about breast implants as each of them hold a sample in their hands.

Breast Lift Consultation

Each patient has a unique anatomy and equally unique goals. During your consultation, Dr. Niki Christopoulos will discuss detailed options and techniques with you. This will include the desired breast size and shape, as well as removal of excess skin and implants you may choose. Our goal is to give you the desired results you want while utilizing the safest methods possible.

Most healthy individuals are good candidates for breast lift procedures. If you want to reduce breast sagging and enlarged areolas, and have firmer more contoured breasts, schedule a consultation with Dr. Christopoulos.

Our Breast Lift Surgeries

The types of breast lifts used here at Chicago Cosmetic Surgery & Dermatology are relatively straight forward. There are 3 common incision patterns involved, in which Dr. Christopoulos will reshape the breast tissue. This includes repositioning the nipple and areola, reducing the size of the areola, and inserting an implant if desired.

Concentric Mastopexy

Also known as a peri-areolar breast lift, this type of incision involves cutting around the areola. It is most often used for women who prefer a mild lift.

Vertical Breast Lift

This incision goes around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease. Sometimes called a “lollipop incision”, this method is best for those who prefer a moderate lift.

Anchor Breast Lift

This method involves incisions in the shape of an anchor and is sometimes known as the “inverted T” lift. Incisions are made circling the outer edge of the areola, vertically down from the areola, and horizontally along the breast crease.

Concentric markings show where surgeon will cut during breast augmentation procedure.

Breast Lift Recovery

The length of recovery varies from one individual to another, and depends on the type of procedures performed. It is natural to have some bruising and swelling after the procedure, but this will subside. Most of our patients resume normal activities within a few days and return to work within one week. You will be advised to refrain from any strenuous activities for several weeks, and Dr. Christopoulos will recommend the proper type of bra to wear, as well.

Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Niki Christopoulos, is double-board certified and performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. Intravenous sedation or general anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist for the procedure. The length of the surgery depends on what procedures you are having done, and may take up to 3 hours.
