Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Schedule an Appointment
An Arm Lift, also known as a Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape and recontour the under portion of the upper arm. The upper arms can often develop loose and sagging skin as part of the natural aging process, genetics, or after significant weight loss.

What is an Arm Lift?

Niki Christopoulos MD, FACS  uses the most advanced techniques to reshape your arms, remove excess skin and fat, and provide you with a more shapely and firm upper arm.  Depending on the elasticity of your skin, Dr. Christopoulos may use liposuction in addition to, or instead of, a surgical incision to reshape your upper arms.

Am I a good candidate for a Arm Lift Surgery?

Ideal Candidates for a Brachioplasty are patients who wish to:

  • Eliminate loose hanging skin from the undersurface of the upper arm
  • Reduce excess fatty deposits in the upper arm
  • Redefine and recontour their upper arm

Dr. Niki Christopoulos’ Approach to a Arm Lift Procedure

The location and length of your incisions will vary depending on the degree of skin laxity as well as the amount of excess fat present. In general, the incision is placed on the upper inner arm and extends from the axilla to above the elbow. If a lesser degree of excess skin is present, then the incision may be limited to the axillary area. Liposuction is sometimes performed in addition to, or instead of removing excess skin. If liposuction is used alone, then small incisions will be placed in hidden skin creases along the inner arm.

Dr. Christopoulos is a double-board certified plastic surgeon and performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. Anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist using either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for your comfort and safety during the procedure. The procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours, although complicated procedures may take longer.

Arm Lift Recovery and Results

The length of recovery depends on the type of procedure you have performed and the healing process does vary from individual to individual. It is natural to expect some bruising, swelling and numbness along the inner arm after your procedure. Your arms will be wrapped in bandages after surgery and sometimes small drainage tubes are placed temporarily under the skin to drain excess fluid. Most patients are able to resume daily activities and return to work after a week. While you will immediately see an improvement in shape and contour, prolonged swelling after a brachioplasty +/-liposuction is, however, typical and it can take several weeks before you see all the swelling subside. It is important to maintain your healthy diet and exercise regimen during the healing process because substantial weight gain will alter your result.
Dr. Christopoulos will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity for a few weeks after your surgery and will also guide you on the proper type of compression garments that may be necessary to minimize swelling and improve your results.
