August is Hair Loss Awareness Month
Suffering with excessive shedding, thinning or loss of hair can be a silent struggle for both male and female patients. Hair loss has many causes including (but not limited to) heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or medications associated with them, a stressful life event and certain styling techniques. Diagnosis is often incredibly patient specific, which is why it is important you seek the guidance of a hair loss expert. Since August is Hair Loss Awareness Month, we wanted to highlight our expert hair loss providers and treatment options. Dr. Omer Ibrahim’s interest in the condition of alopecia and hair loss began with working alongside Dr. Wilma Fowler Bergfeld at the Cleveland Clinic, who is one of the nation’s top experts on hair loss. As the hair growth guru of Chicago, Dr. Ibrahim makes time for his hair loss patient’s during clinic hours recommending many successful results-driven patient care plans. One of the most popular treatments for hair loss at CCSD is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. PRP is blood plasma that contains essential proteins to stimulate natural hair growth. This therapy involves drawing a patient’s own blood, spinning it so that only enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and re-injecting it into the scalp. New hair growth can be seen as early as 2 months following treatment. Hair growth will continue to improve up to a year thereafter. CCSD has a multitude of treatment and product options at our office, and we can customized hair loss regimens based on your needs. Check out how other CCSD patients saw fantastic hair growth improvements HERE! Call 312-245-9965 option 2 or book online, to schedule your hair loss appointment today!

UV Safety Month – Protect Your Skin this July
Everyone waits all year for summertime in Chicago! We hope all of our patients enjoy the warmer weather safely with these four tips to protect your skin this July, which is UV Safety Month: For your skin, ALWAYS wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on any exposed skin, reapplying every 2 hours. If you’re swimming or sweating, use a waterproof sunscreen. Limit peak sun exposure from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM if possible or seek shade when out during those times. This is when the sun's UV rays are the highest! You can also wear UPF clothing such as MOTT50 or COOLIBAR. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates what fraction of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can penetrate fabric. A shirt with a UPF of 50, allows just 1/50th of the sun’s UV radiation to reach the skin. This helps reduce the amount of exposed skin and less sunblock coverage needed where the UPF clothing covers. Sunglasses with UV protection and wide-brimmed hats are also recommended to fully protect yourself from harmful UV rays. Read more tips from Dr. Omer Ibrahim’s interview with the AAD of what to wear to protect your skin from the sun! Don’t forget to also schedule your annual full body skin exam with a CCSD provider and also perform regular skin self-exams while looking out for the ABCDEs of skin cancer. When detected early, skin cancer can be highly treatable! Call or text our office at 312-245-9965 opt. 2 to schedule a full body skin check and stock up on your summer stash of sunscreen on our skincare website chicagoskinscience.com! (Don’t forget you’ll receive a complimentary beach tote with a purchase of 3 EltaMD products purchased in July while supplies last!)

We apologize for the inconvenience, and will notify our patients as soon as this service is restored! The consent text will come from our office phone number, so you’ll know it’s CCSD! Appointment reminders via text message are currently down, but we are working to restore this service. CCSD MASK REMINDER – Updated 3/1/22
At Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, the health & safety of our patients, providers and staff have always been our top priority. We continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance for healthcare settings and continue to implement procedures to adhere to these guidelines. As you may know, the CDC recently released new masking recommendations that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance themselves. However, as explicitly stated by the CDC, these new recommendations do NOT include healthcare settings, like CCSD. While we can’t wait to see your smiling faces when visiting our practice, because we are a healthcare setting, CCSD will continue to require: ALL patients, providers and staff must continue to wear face masks, regardless of their vaccination status. We will continue to follow the full infection control procedures required by the CDC for healthcare settings. This includes masks, social distancing, enhanced infection prevention, monitoring and screening staff & patients (health survey and temp checks), and sanitizing clinic rooms and common areas. If this requirement changes, we will notify our patients ASAP! Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in us as your dermatologic healthcare provider.
